Saint George is one of the most famous saints in Christianity. He was born in the 3rd century and served in the Roman army.<\/p>\n
He is known for his legendary battle with a dragon that threatened a political principality. George defeated the dragon, symbolizing courage, faith and victory over evil.<\/p>\n
He is the patron saint of soldiers, farmers and many professions. His feast day, the Feast of Saint George, is celebrated on April 23.<\/p>\n
Hagiography occupies an important place in church art due to its self-evident artistic value. In addition to this, a hagiographic image connects man with the holiness of the person depicted.<\/p>\n
